The Nigeria Women Football League management under the leadership of veteran journalist cum football administrator, Aisha Falode has unveiled Tulcan Energy Resources as the official sponsors of the 2022 NWFL Premiership Super Six tournament.
In the draw ceremony which took place on Tuesday, May 3rd, at the Marriot Hotel, Lagos, the league body announced a partnership with the energy company.
As part of the sponsorship deal, the company will kit all the six clubs participating in the tournament that would determine the winner of the 2021/2022 season and Nigeria’s representative at the continental stage.
Reacting to the deal, TULCAN Energy Resources, through its representative, Dolapo Akinwale, said, “Our strategy and intention is to grow the sport and that’s the reason we are sponsoring the NWFL Premiership Super 6. We are also planning to sustain this.”
The tournament is billed from 16th to 22nd in Benin across two centres (Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and University of Benin Sports complex) and will see six teams fight for the topmost women’s football league trophy.
Northern group qualifiers, Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens FC and Naija Ratels will go head to head with Southern group qualifiers, Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels and Delta Queens in round-robin games (5 games each) in seven days.
The participating teams will look to win the league and book a continental ticket where the defending champions, Rivers Angels represented Nigeria at the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, but couldn’t proceed beyond the group stage.
According to the NWFL statement on her official Twitter handle, the winners of the Super Six will go home with a 5 Million Naira cash prize with the second taking home 3 million naira and the third 2 million naira.
