North Africa Test for Enyimba and Rivers United in CAF Confederations Cup

Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederations Cup, Enyimba FC of Aba and Rivers United of Portharcourt have both been drawn against two North African clubs in the next round of the continental cups competition.

On Tuesday afternoon, the draws for the 2nd additional preliminary rounds of the CAF Confederations Cup took place at the African football headquarters in Cairo and alongside several other fixtures, the Nigerian representatives were drawn against oppositions from Libya and Egypt respectively.

Two-time African champions Enyimba will lock horns against Libyan side Al-Ittihad while Rivers United will slug it out with Egyptian club Al Masry.

The 16 teams qualified from the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round were drawn to face the losing 16 teams from the Champions League second preliminary round.

Head of CAF Competitions Khaled Nassar conducted the draw and was assisted by Egypt and Zamalek legend Ismail Youssef.

Enyimba International and Rivers United are the two remaining clubs representing the country in the inter-club competition after the crashing out of Akwa United and Bayelsa United.

The first leg matches will be played between 26 and 28 November 2021 while the second leg takes place on 3 to 5 December 2021.

The 16 winners of the ties will take part in the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup, which will start in February 2022.
