Betsy Obaseki Tournament: Organisers Increase Competition Cash Prize

Following the high standard of play in the ongoing Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament, the organising committee has announced an increase in the prize money for the over all winner of the BOWFT from #3 million to #5 million for the champions, first runner up #3 million from #2 million and the second runner up to #2 million from the former #1 million.

This announcement was made on Thursday by the Deputy Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu while addressing the press men after the match between Edo and Heartland Queens.

The Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki while addressing the two teams – Edo Queens and Heartland, said that the performances of these girls has made them know that their idea of initiating this is not a joke and that she’s excited that the girls have shown character and dedication in all games played so far.

Edo Queens defeated Heartland Queens in a five star performance at the Uniben sports complex by dazing Heartland Queens by 5 goals to nothing, to book their place in the semi finals where they will be meeting with the defending champions of the Nigeria women football league.

Brace from substitute, Emmem Essien, long range missile by another substitute, Elizabeth Zirike, a specially carved free kick that can be tagged ‘made in heaven’ free kick by Rebecca Ajumuda and the tournament’s fastest goal from Adaobi Okah on the 2nd minute are part of what excite the over five hundred fans fans at the sports complex.

With 10 goals scored and 1 conceded, Edo Queens will play against another high scoring side with 12 goals scored, Rivers Angels, on Saturday, October 2nd, in one of the semi final games in the competition.
