The National Council of Sports has ratified the request by the Edo State Government to have the 20th National Sports Festival initially tagged Benin 2020 to be renamed Edo 2020.
The request which was formally made at the National Council for Sports technical meeting involving the representatives of the participating states and officials of the Federal Ministry of Sports at the Edo Heritage Hotel, Benin-City was generally considered a good one and immediately supported since it is meant to give the entire indigenes and people of Edo state a sense of belonging.
It will be recalled that Benin-City was awarded the hosting rights for the 20th National Sports Festival in 2020 after defeating other bids from Delta, Cross-River and Kaduna State at the closing ceremony of the Abuja 2018 National Sports Festival.
The games are now billed to run between March 20th – April 3rd 2020.
