Paris St Germain’s Neymar could be out of action for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury sustained during the match against St Etienne which PSG won 3-1.
On their website, PSG said the 29-year-old sprained his ankle in the final seconds of the match.
The incident occurred after he stepped on the foot of St Etienne’s Yvann Macon which made him scream in pain before being carried away.
Neymar then left the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard stadium on crutches.
“The checks carried out last night confirmed that Neymar Jr has injured his left ankle with a ligament injury. It is estimated that he will be out for six to eight weeks,” PSG said, adding the injury would be re-evaluated in 72 hours.
Neymar previously said in an Instagram post that being absent is part of an athlete’s life and vowed to “come back better and stronger.”
PSG’s Lionel Messi scored all three goals of the game as they extended their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table to 12 points.
