The plans by Edo State to host a remarkable National Sports Festival in 2020 received a massive boost on Tuesday as the National Council on Sports heaped praises on the state for a remarkable job done so far after representatives of the host state guided the inspection visit to the different sport venues earmarked for the festival.
In accordance with the programme of activities for the extra-ordinary meeting of the national council on sports, delegates from participating states, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development as well as the Host State undertook an inspection visit to different sport venues and facilities listed for the 2020 sport festival.
Some of the venues and facilities visited included the University of Benin, the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, the Games Village Accomodation at the Benin Technical College, the Indoor Sports Complex, Etete, Imaguero College, Sapele Road, Army School of Supply and Transport, Isihor, the Benin Club and the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Speaking on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Sports, Mr Tunde Kazeem who also is the Chairman Director of Sports, the entire representatives of the participating states are happy with all they have seen. ” We are delighted with the level of preparation of Edo State towards hosting a successful National Sports Festival in 2020. We particularly appreciate the Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki for his commitment and everybody involved in the planning and we believe that by the time we come back, the little patches that remains would have been put in place. For now, we rate Edo State at 65 percent ready and this is just the first visit”, the Director of Sports in Kwara State concluded.
Barrister Godwin Dudu Orumen, the Chairman Edo State Sports Commission who responded on behalf of the Edo State Government assured that ahead of the next inspection visit, the state will work on the observations noted and will also attach sports to the proposed venues for more detailed inspection and evaluation.
