The Electoral Committee saddled with the NBBF Election led by Dr Lanre Glover, earlier on Thursday said it is ready to organise the election billed for Benin this Saturday, October 30.
Chairman of the electoral Committee Dr Lanre Glover in the communique released on Thursday afternoon said having studied the report of the NBBF congress which set up the committee, they are ready to go ahead and organise a hitch-free election.
The former president of Handball Federation of Nigeria said submission of the nomination form by interested candidates had been extended to Friday, October 29, 12 noon to enable them to give all candidates s opportunity to contest.
In his word, Dr Glover insisted that the said the election will be conducted on the 30th in Benin as stipulated by the NBBF Election.
“We have invited NOC, FIBA and Ministry of Sports.
In a twist, the caretaker committee chairman of the NBBF, Engr. Musa Kida has urged the electoral committee to be obedient to the ministry for the postponement of the election, to create room for progress.
This occurred during the Electoral Congress of the NBBF Extra-Ordinary Congress held today, 28th of October, 2021, via Zoom, to discuss the position of the Ministry of Youth And Sports Development to postpone the NBBF Elective Congress that was scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo State on 30th October, 2021, as approved by the Congress of 9th October, 2021, held in Abuja.
Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida admonished the Congress to respect and appreciate the advice of the FMY&S to postpone the Elective Congress so that all the concerns raised for successful elections onto the NBBF Board for the 2021- 2025 Term of Office can be addressed.
The Congress, after thorough deliberations agreed as follows:
1) That, as advised by the FMY&S that the Elective Congress be postponed to a later date, Congress unanimously agreed to postpone the Elective congress by a few weeks.
2) Congress mandated the NBBF President to engage the FMY&SD in a positive discussion for free, fair, transparent and successful elections to be held to usher in a new Board.
3) The Congress, in a vote of confidence passed on the NBBF President, Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida, authorized him to engage the leadership of the FMY&SD in discussions to address their concerns to ensure a safe and secure Elective Congress as prescribed by the 2019 NBBF approved Constitution.
4) Congress thanked the Honourable Minister FMY&SD and his team for their unflinching support to the NBBF board, led by Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida, which ensured that Nigeria never missed any of its scheduled activities since coming on board, leading to unprecedented strings of achievements and performances in the history of Basketball in Nigeria.
