Edo Sports Commission, FCAAN In Coaching Agreement

    The Edo State Sports Commission in conjunction with the Edo State Football Association have concluded plans to welcome the Football Coaches Association of Africa Nations ( FCAAN) to Benin-City for a week long Coaching Course for grassroot football coaches.

    Speaking in Benin-City after reaching an agreement with the founder of FCAAN, Dr Babatunde Terry Eguaoje all the way from the USA, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Barrister Godwin Dudu-Orumen disclosed that the training and re-training of Coaches is of utmost importance to the game of football at this stage of our football development.

    “We have just concluded plans with Dr Babatunde Terry Eguaoje to bring the FCAAN training model to Edo State. Our focus now in Nigeria just like any other serious nation should be on grassroot youth soccer development and coaching education. Football Coaches in Nigeria needs a re-training of their mind and re-orientation on focusing on youth football development. We need a continuous replacement of talent at various levels of the national team and only an effective implementation of the catch them young programme orchestrated by the right coaching methods can help achieve this”, declared the lawyer cum sports administrator.

    US based Edo State born Babatunde Terry Eguaoje, a doctorate degree holder and currently the Technical Director, Pennsylvania West Soccer Association and Founder of Football Coaches of Africa Nations ( FCAAN) is a US Soccer Grassroot Instructor and according to him, coming back home to help Nigerian Coaches is a duty he owes the game. “I have been doing this back home in Africa. It’s a give back to me and in June this year, I brought Kyle Quigley from Manchester City and together with Coach Henry Abiodun and Dr Babatunde Tee Akinbinu we organised the E & D Diploma Coaching Course for over a hundred Coaches at Lead City University, Ibadan. This time around, Colin Barnes from London will also join us to train the Coaches in Benin-City”.

    The Director of Coaching Education FCAAN, Henry Abiodun a former gaffer at Sunshine Stars of Akure further revealed that the Coaching programme will take place between November 11-15 2019 at the Benson Idahosa University, Benin-city and the programme which is endorsed by the NFF will be fully residential.
