As Akwa United travel to Algiers next Sunday for the return leg of the CAF Champions league preliminary stage fixture against CR Belouizdad of Algeria, the coach of Akwa United, Kennedy Boboye is sure of his team’s readiness for the second leg which they must avoid defeat to progress.
Akwa United head coach, Kennedy Boboye at the post match presser said the team is work in progress on the continent unlike their opponents who have appeared on several occasions at the competition
“The Algerian side are highly technical. They have been in this tournament for three to four times. You can’t take it away from them. This is our first time in the Champions League. There is no how we would have gotten what we wanted in a space of four weeks. The Algerians have been together for four years.”
The former Remo Stars gaffer, though not happy that some of his key players were not with the team at a time like this, he still believes the team will come good as they progress in the competition.
“This is what we have gotten. Most of these players we tried to get didn’t come. We can’t stop players from travelling. It’s unfortunate that we started the tournament very early. We haven’t been able to play together for a long time. By the time we surpass this stage, we would be better than before.
Akwa United travels to Algiers next week for the second leg,but the Coach already has his plans mapped out for the return leg.
“We will go there with a different formation. What we need is an attacker who can hold the ball. If we can’t score, let’s try to keep the one we have. We haven’t gotten the qualities needed upfront. If we play to instruction and the formation to be used, the team should perform well.”
Akwa United goes into the second leg fixtures with a slim, but a good 1-0 advantage over their opponents.
